    Beyond the Dream: The Enduring Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

    The “Beyond the Dream” speaker series will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with conversations that will deepen our understanding of Dr. King and the civil rights movement beyond the well-known “I Have a Dream” speech. The series will include Rutgers University faculty and other experts who will discuss contributions of other leaders who were key to the success of the civil rights movement but who are less well known to some and the impact of the civil rights movement on current social justice movements.  The speaker series will conclude with a conversation with Dr. Clayborne Carson,  Martin Luther King, Jr. Centennial Professor, Emeritus at Stanford University who founded the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford which holds the definitive collection of sermons, speeches, correspondences, writings and other materials of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

    As part of the Commission on Presidential Debates Debate Watch 2020, Rutgers-Camden will hold presidential debate watches on September 29th, October 15th, and October 22nd. Join Rutgers faculty members for pre- and post-debate discussions on Zoom about the goals for presidential debates, what to watch for, and how to interpret what happened on the debate stage. The conversations will also continue via Zoom chat and Twitter (#RUCPD2020) during the debate, giving participants the chance to ask questions and share their thoughts.
