Christine Bator has been in private practice since 1982.   She has a JD from Seton Hall Law School and an LLM in Corporate Law from NYU Law.   She currently teaches Energy, Economics and the Environment at Rutgers Law School.

Biography

Christine Bator has a BA in Economics from Seton Hall University and a JD from Seton Hall Law School.    She has an LLM in Corporate Law from New York University Law School.  She is admitted to the NJ and NY bars.

Governor Codey appointed Chris a Commissioner of the NJ Board of Public Utilities responsible for regulating the Energy, Water and Telecommunications industry in NJ.   Chris served as a member of the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners Gas and Critical Infrastructure Committees.  She was a member of the advisory committee of the Gas Technology Institute, a non-profit organization that developed new technology for the natural gas industry.

Chris was appointed Chair of the District VII Fee Arbitration Committee by the NJ Supreme Court for two terms. 

Governor Whitman appointed Chris a commissioner of the $2 billion NJ Highway Authority, which owned and operated the Garden State Parkway.  As a commissioner she chaired the audit and finance committees and helped facilitate its merger the NJ Turnpike Authority.  

Prior to going into private practice Chris served as the Director of the Office of Legal Affairs for the NJ Commissioner of Health.  In private practice she represented clients on regulatory and corporate legal issues in several regulated industries including energy, banking, and health care.  She served as a rule 1:40 mediator and an arbitrator for the American Health Lawyers Association. 

Chris served as President of Executive Women of NJ and task force chair for the National Women’s Political caucus and in these roles supported expanding women in corporate board rooms and in political office while raising money for graduate level scholarships.

Chris has been a member of the following organizations promoting scholarship and professionalism.   Seton Hall University President’s Advisory Committee, NJ Institute for Continuing Legal Education, Mercer Bar Foundation, and  NJ Lawyer.  She is a former Trustee of the NJ Bar Association, chair of the Banking Law Section,  Vice Chair of the Bar Professional Responsibility Committee, director of  Bar Health and Hospital Law Section.  She is a former director of the NJ Women Lawyers Association and co-director of its Public Policy Committee. 

Chris has written and lectured extensively on corporate governance, health care, energy, environmental and business and regulatory issues.
