Course Description

601:547. GLOBAL TRADE LAW (2 or 3) WI

Patterson

LE:20

Global trade is governed by the rules of the World Trade Organization. Those rules, together with treaties, side agreements, and other norms constitute the fabric of global trade rules and regulations. In this course, we will study this system in its complete context. This will require consideration of history and economic theory as well as law.

We will begin by reading a book about globalization (Baldwin) that provides the historical and economic backdrop for the norms of global trade. We will then read excerpt from Doug Irwin’s recently-published, superb historical account of global trade. Finally, we will look at the structure and norms of the WTO.
