DutiesStudents will write appellate briefs in the area of criminal law, primarily on the sufficiency of the evidence for crimes; suppression issues; federal litigation and post-conviction relief.
Agency descriptionThe Philadelphia District Attorneys Office is the largest prosecutor's office in Pennsylvania, and one of the largest in the nation. It serves the more than 1.5 million citizens of the City and County of Philadelphia, employing 600 lawyers, detectives and support staff. The District Attorney's Office is responsible for prosecution of over 75,000 criminal cases yearly. It is organized into six divisions: Executive/Administration, Trials, Investigations, Juvenile, Law, and Special Operations. This Practicum is with the Law Division. The Law Division is responsible for appeals and post-conviction litigation in state and federal court.

Position requirementsIdeal for students who are committed to, or interested in learning more about, a career in criminal law or a career that will involve extensive legal analysis and writing. Preferred credentials include: strong writing skills, as evidenced by writing sample submission and/or writing experience and top 30% ranking.
