Shayna Scott is a Detention Fellow with the Rutgers Immigrant Rights Clinic's Detention and Deportation Defense Initiative (DDDI). This project provides pro bono representation to detained New Jersey residents in their immigration proceedings. Ms. Scott represents detained clients, as well as clients who have been released from detention and/or are vulnerable to being detained, in their proceedings before the Immigration Courts; the Board of Immigration Appeals; the federal District Courts; and the federal Courts of Appeals, as appropriate. She also supervises law students representing these individuals or providing assistance to the project.

Ms. Scott received a B.A. in international studies and a minor in philosophy from Boston College and her J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, where she was a Public Interest Law Scholar and an editorial board member of the Northeastern University Law Review. During law school, she interned at the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the Capital Area Immigrants' Rights (CAIR) Coalition Immigration Impact Lab, and the Committee for Public Counsel Services Public Defender Division.

Ms. Scott previously worked at the Vera Institute of Justice, administering the National Qualified Representative Program (NQRP), which provides counsel to detained, unrepresented individuals who are unable to represent themselves in their immigration proceedings due to a serious mental health condition.
