This program will discuss the current standards set forth in New Jersey case law relating to custody removal and relocation applications, as well as relevant statutory law. Practical tips will be provided to assist attorneys in handling these difficult cases. The panel will also explore common ethical issues arising in the practice of family law, with ideas and pointers to address them. Topics include:

  • Baures v. Lewis, 167 N.J. 91 (2001) 
  • Bisbing v. Bisbing, 230 N.J. 309 (2017)
  • N.J.S.A. § 9:2-2 and 9:2-4
  • retainer agreements
  • dealing with difficult clients
  • conflicts of interest
  • duty of candor towards the court
  • civility between counsel 

NJ CLE Information: This program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 3.0 hours of total CLE credit. Of these, 1.2 qualify as hours of credit for ethics/professionalism, and 1.8 qualify as hours of credit toward certification in matrimonial law.
