The Rutgers Center for Immigration Law, Policy and Justice is hosting a Colloquium on Sanctuary - exploring the legal, hsitorical, cultural, and political meaning of "sanctuary laws, practices and policies.

The first lunchtime talk on this topic will be held on Wednesday, September 26 in the Baker Courtroom from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at the Center for Law and Justice at 123 Washington St. in Newark. 

In this inaugural lecture, Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Public and Digital Humanities Initiatives at Rutgers-Newark, Mary Rizzo and Associate Professor and Director of Women's and Gender Studies, Whitney Strub, will share their research examining the detention of non-citizens in the jails in Newark, a self-declared "sanctuary city.' The lecture will build on their recently-published article on Think Progress "The Silent Deception of Newark's 'Sanctuary' Status."Professor Rose Villazor, founder and director of the center, will comment on their work.
