Join us at the Minority Student Program’s Fall Reception as we welcome the leaders of affinity bar associations to discuss how they are addressing some of the issues and events that have caused a division in our nation.  The discussion, "United for Justice: A Collaborative Conversation," will highlight their collaborative efforts to promote unity, justice, diversity, and inclusion.

The panelists and organizations represented are:

  • Carolyn Chang, President of the Association of Black Women Lawyers of NJ
  • Hector Ruiz, President-Elect of the Hispanic Bar Association of NJ
  • Celeste Fiore, Chair-Elect of the LGBT Rights Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association
  • Eric Fikry, Immediate Past-President of the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of NJ
  • Sharmila Jaipersaud, President of the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey
  • Ehsan Chowdhry, President of the New Jersey Muslim Lawyers Association
  • Lloyd Freeman, President of the Garden State Bar Association.

Prior to the reception, a CLE program regarding implicit bias will be offered from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm in Room E108.  Professor Stacy Hawkins, a renowned expert on employment law and diversity, will discuss the science behind implicit bias and the implications of implicit bias for the practice of law and the administration of justice.  In addition, Professor Hawkins will identify practical techniques for overcoming the operation of implicit bias in an attorney’s daily practice and in the legal profession.
