Students in Camden can take part in practice externships at public or nonprofit organizations or get real-world experience through judicial externships.

Practice Externships

Our placements and supervisors are managing externship programs in a variety of ways in light of quarantine requirements. Some sites are still "open" and providing remote work; others are temporarily on pause. Please reach out to Prof. Simkins or Prof. Gotthelf for more specific information about individual externships.

The Camden campus of Rutgers Law School offers extensive opportunities for students to earn academic credit while working for various public and private nonprofit agencies and governmental agencies.  These placements teach both civil and criminal legal skills. A complete listing of Civil Practice Externships can be found here: civil.  A complete listing of Criminal Practice Externships can be found here: criminalFor a description of judicial placements, visit our Judicial Externships page.

Some positions allow students to appear in court under the student practice rules of New Jersey or Pennsylvania. These externships are open to students who are in their 3L years or to 2L students who will not be appearing in court. For more information, contact Sandra Simkins, Distinguished Clinical Professor, Director of Practice Externships/Field Placements, at 856-225-6646.
