Each year, Rutgers Law School in Camden hosts an auction for law students who want to spend their summers doing public interest work. The auction is a fun event with a live auctioneer that raises money for summer stipends. 

Though this year's auction was canceled, students can still use your help.  Pro bono and public interest services are needed now more than ever. One of the many results of the pandemic is the crushing need of individuals and legal service providers for support and assistance.  We have witnessed the robust response of providers to continue the care, counsel, and advocacy for their clients and to fulfill their commitment to law student summer interns. 

Our law students are eager to provide assistance, but they need financial support.

Top donors can win donated prizes that include an evening of axe-throwing, food, and drinks for four with Co-Dean Kim Mutcherson; a Good Morning America tour experience; or a hand-crafted Rutgers quilt. 

Since 1996, APIL has awarded stipends in amounts ranging from $500 - $3500 to over 150 students working in public interest organizations locally and nationally. Students have volunteered at organizations that include the ACLU, Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, Disability Rights, Community Health Law, local prosecutors’ offices, Office of the Public Defender, Office of the Attorney General, and many others.

“By participating in the auction, you are not only helping law students learn valuable skills and begin careers of public service, you are supporting legal services in communities that would otherwise have none,” said Sara Gray, a previous APIL president.
