601:522. ADVANCED LEGAL RESEARCH (2) S

This course is designed to simulate how practitioners approach legal research problems. Through this course, students will develop effective research skills and an in-depth knowledge of the research tools available in different subject areas. Specifically, this course will expose students to research methods, strategies, and techniques that are employed in practice to effectively and efficiently conduct research of statutes, regulations, cases, legislative materials, model rules, secondary sources, and practitioner materials. The course will also expose students to a wide-range of resources that are used to conduct research in specific areas of the law such as federal taxation, international law, administrative law, litigation, and transactional practice. Class time will include lectures and discussions and application of legal research concepts through practical exercises. Out of class assignments will expand upon classroom exercises and reflect the types of research tasks that new attorneys face when they enter practice.

Spring 2023 – Adv. Legal Research: Administrative Law1 credit

Students will study the theory, methodology, and research environment associated with performing administrative law research. The course will focus on both federal and New Jersey administrative research resources. Students will gain hands-on experience in finding and utilizing administrative law resources in both print and online formats. There will be short weekly in-class and take home assignments to help students master the use of relevant research tools.
