An in-depth study of the investigatory stage of the criminal process.  Focuses on the limits on police investigatory practices, such as arrest, stop and frisk, search and seizure, interrogation, and identification, particularly as imposed by the fourth, fifth, sixth, and fourteenth amendments.  Discusses the right to counsel, the use of force, and the exclusion of evidence in this process. Explores competing theories of criminal investigation procedure.
