Colleges and universities are among the most heavily regulated organizations in the United States. They are subject not only to common law liability (tort, contract, defamation, etc.), but also are closely regulated by both state and federal laws applicable to business organizations, such as the laws regulating employment, as well as additional laws involving eligibility for federal and state funds, such as Title IX, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and laws regulating research and intellectual property. This seminar addresses all of these issues; academic freedom for both faculty and students is addressed as well.
