Professor Lee teaches courses in employment law and higher education law, and mentors doctoral students working toward the PhD in higher education. Her scholarship focuses on faculty employment issues involving tenure and discrimination, and has been published in the Journal of College and University Law, the Berkeley Journal of Employment and Labor Law, the Mississippi Law Journal, and the Industrial and Labor Relations Review, among others. She is the coauthor of the leading treatise on higher education law, The Law of Higher Education, now in its sixth edition, as well as Academics in Court: The Consequences of Faculty Discrimination Litigation. Professor Lee is the editor of the Journal of College & University Law.
During her career at Rutgers, Professor Lee has served as department chair, director of the Center for Women and Work, associate provost, dean, and senior vice president for academic affairs, a position she held until June of 2020. She is a member of the graduate faculty of the PhD in Industrial Relations and Human Resources and the PhD in Higher Education, and has mentored doctoral students throughout her career. As a practicing attorney, she advised clients on compliance with employment and labor laws and assisted them in responding to equal employment opportunity agency charges and litigation. She is a trustee of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation and was named a Fellow of the National Association of College and University Attorneys in recognition of her scholarship on higher education law. Professor Lee received her B.A. in English and French summa cum laude from the University of Vermont, her M.A. in English and PhD in Higher Education Administration from the Ohio State University, and her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University, where she won the John F. Kennedy Labor Law Award.
