Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg taught at Rutgers Law University from 1963 to 1972. At the time, she was one of fewer than twenty female law professors in the country. She became a beloved member of our community and is honored with her own building on the Newark campus.

Senator Elizabeth Warren is a 1976 Rutgers Law graduate and the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from the state of Massachusetts. She earned an honorary degree from Rutgers Law in 2011 and ran for president in 2020. In her own words, "Rutgers Law opened a thousand doors for me. I learned important thinking skills. I got a law degree. But most of all, Rutgers put me to the test to figure out who I was and what I could do."

Hon. Gregory M. Sleet (Ret.) was the first African American to be appointed United States Attorney in Delaware, and the first to be appointed to the federal bench in Delaware.

George McPhee is a 1992 Rutgers Law graduate and the General Manager of the Vegas Golden Knights. He is credited with the rise of the record-breaking Golden Knights. The team won the Stanley Cup in 2023.

Hon. Fabiana Pierre-Louis is the first African American woman to serve on the New Jersey Supreme Court where she serves to this day.

Hon. Zahid Quraishi is the first Muslim-American to serve on a federal district court as an Article III judge where he still serves today.

Okianer Christian Dark is a 1979 Rutgers Law graduate. She serves as the Associate Provost and Professor of Law at Howard University. She received the Alumni Senior Prize for the graduate exhibiting the highest achievement in law school and potential success in the legal profession.

The late James J. Florio served as the 49th governor of New Jersey from 1990 to 1994. He was previously the U.S. representative for New Jersey's first congressional district and served in the New Jersey General Assembly.

Hon. Esther Salas is a 1994 Rutgers Law Graduate. She became the first Hispanic magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey in 2006. President Obama appointed her as a U.S. District Court Judge in 2010 where she still serves today.
