Report Harassment or Bias

A Message from the Rutgers Law School Administration

We are committed to fostering a supportive learning environment for everyone. We hope to nurture an environment where students feel comfortable raising issues directly with faculty and colleagues.

We understand, however, this might not always be the case and that students may not be comfortable expressing their concerns directly with professors. Any student who has a concern about something that occurs in the classroom or anywhere else in the law school building can bring the matter to the attention of the co-Deans, the Vice-Deans, the Dean of Students and/or the MSP Dean.

Please understand that if the complaint is regarding incidents of harassment on the bases of race, sex, disability, or any other protected category, under state and federal law, the Law School is obligated to notify the University units that are responsible for documenting and handling such complaints.

Consultation with a Law School Administrator is not a prerequisite to filing a complaint with the University.  However, we are here to provide as much guidance as possible about the University processes and policies. The University processes offer both formal resolution (i.e. an investigation) and informal resolution (i.e. mediation) of complaints.  Thus, complaints may be resolved without a full investigation.  In addition, complaints can be filed anonymously.  Any report made to the University anonymously will be relayed to the Law School and handled either internally or externally depending on the circumstances of the matter.

When reporting an incident involving a Rutgers faculty or staff member, students may file a complaint with the Office of Employment Equity. The OEE investigates complaints of discrimination and harassment based on membership in a protected class, sexual misconduct under Title IX, and workplace violence. The complaint process is outlined here. The complaint form is here

In Newark, students can formally report student-on-student incidents of bias, sexual misconduct, student misconduct, academic integrity, or that require a CARE Team response using this link

In Camden, students are able to report student-on-student harassment or bias here. To report incidents involving sexual misconduct (i.e. sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, gender-based harassment, relationship violence, stalking, and retaliation) in Camden, please use this link

Regardless of whether a complaint is raised directly with a faculty member, a member of the Law School administration or through the university procedures, all complaints will remain confidential to the extent possible and there will be no retaliation.
