The Rutgers Immigrant Community Assistance Project (RICAP) strives to foster a safe environment on campus and to remove barriers to student success by providing immigration legal services and community education.

About RICAP

Students enrolled at Rutgers are eligible for a free and confidential legal consultation with RICAP. In some instances, direct representation may be available through RICAP or by referral to a reputable attorney. Additionally, RICAP hosts community forums, informational immigration presentations, and Know-Your-Rights trainings on all Rutgers campuses.

Get Help

If you are a Rutgers student who has immigration concerns, we encourage you to contact RICAP. To request an appointment or to learn more about RICAP, please email RICAP-info@law.rutgers.edu or call 856-225-6568.  

If you are an international student at Rutgers who has had their visa revoked or received notice of SEVIS termination, please email or call RICAP as soon as possible.   

If a Rutgers student faces an encounter with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is threatened with imminent detention, or is detained for immigration reasons, the student (or a witness) should call the 24/7 RU Rapid Response Emergency Hotline number at 973-803-8008 as soon as possible. Please note that this number is for immigration emergencies only. 

Immigrant Youth Under 12

If you are an unmarried, undocumented immigrant student who is under 21 years old living with one or neither of your parents, please contact RICAP as soon as possible. You may be eligible for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). To make an appointment, please contact RICAP-info@law.rutgers.edu or 856-225-6568. Immigrant Justice Fellows 

The Immigrant Justice Fellowship is an annual position that is designed to encourage and support the training and development of law students interested in immigration and immigrant rights law. The Immigrant Justice Fellow works closely with the attorneys and staff of RICAP and the Rutgers Immigrant Justice Clinic on active immigration cases before the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR) and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
