Get Involved
There are many ways to get involved with Rutgers Law School! From giving, to providing mentoring services to current students, or even becoming a boardmember of the Camden or Newark Alumni Associations, there are many ways to give back to Rutgers Law.
Giving To Rutgers Law School
The success of Rutgers Law School depends on you! The support of our alumni and friends provides vital, irreplaceable support to enhance our current academic and student programs, expand educational opportunities, recruit and retain top-notch faculty, students, and staff and ensure that the most promising students can attend the Law School, regardless of economic status. You can donate to Rutgers Law School here.
Mentoring
Become a Mentor
The best guide for students going through law school is someone who has already gone through it. Students are paired with graduates, who, among other things, can help the students decide how to continue their law school career to best prepare them for the type of law they would like to practice.

The Law Alumni-Student Matching initiative connects law students with experienced legal practitioners from the program's alumni network. This collaborative arrangement allows law students to gain guidance and mentoring from seasoned attorneys, fostering professional development and a deeper understanding of the legal field. Email Gwen Tolbert at gtolbert@camden.rutgers.edu for details.

This is your invitation to join an exciting and personally rewarding program provided by your law school Alumni Association for the past 19 years.
The Rutgers Law School–Newark Alumni Association’s student mentoring program is co-sponsored by the law school’s Center for Career Development, the Advancement Office, and a student organization, the Women’s Law Forum, and is open to all Rutgers law students. Comments from past alumni mentors’ evaluations of the program include the following:
“I truly believe that the program has been as beneficial to me as it has been to my mentees, thanks to their enthusiasm, energy, and good humor. I greatly look forward to my future involvement in the program and to meeting new mentees.”
“This program is wonderful, and I am happy to have participated.”
“I would love to continue mentoring ....”
Student mentees have been equally enthusiastic.
To make this school year’s program as successful, the Alumni Association needs additional alumni mentors. To be a mentor you do not have to live or work close to the law school or even in New Jersey. Even before the pandemic, many of the mentorship relationships have worked well remotely, so that Zoom is a perfectly fine tool to utilize for your meetings. You do, however, have to commit to the mentoring relationship, meaning that you will establish and maintain contact with your mentee(s) during the year and will try, if possible, to attend the Mentoring orientation and perhaps some of the Career Development programs.
If you want to join the program, fill out this Mentor Survey Form by September 20th, 2024. The form will be submitted to the Women’s Law Forum. If you have questions concerning the form or the mentoring program, please reach out to the Association Mentoring Committee co-chairs, Ruby Hope or Richard Willie, both at runewarklawyounguns@gmail.com
Please note the following planned events. Mentors will be advised of specific dates as soon as possible.
- After alumni mentors are matched with student mentees, the 2023-24 mentoring program will kick off with a reception at the law school. This event will be scheduled for an evening in October, which will be confirmed when you receive your assignment. This informal event will provide an opportunity for mentors and mentees to meet personally in a supportive environment. Many of our previous participants commented that our kick-off social gathering helped them establish their relationships on a firm footing.
- In late March or early April, the Mentoring Program Committee will sponsor, with the Women’s Law Forum, an alumni panel discussion/presentation on “Networking.” The program will be modeled after very successful panel presentations we have sponsored every year since the beginning of the mentoring program and will focus on the networking experiences of a group of alumni with a wide range of experience as practitioners. More details and the exact date will be forthcoming.
We look forward to hearing from you and to your participation as a mentor in this important program.
