More than 175 alumni from the Newark classes of 1975, 1980, 1985, 1995, 2005, and 2015 returned to Rutgers Law School to celebrate their milestone reunions on June 6. The day began with a luncheon, address by Dean Johanna Bond and panel discussion featuring current law students who shared insights into their academic and campus experiences.
In the afternoon, attendees participated in a CLE course titled “The State of DEI and Implications for the Workplace,” led by Distinguished Professor Rachel D. Godsil.
The highlight was the evening festivities at Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hall, 15 Washington Street. For many of the alumni, RBG Hall was their former law school building, making the evening more meaningful. A cocktail reception offered a warm space for classmates to reconnect, often for the first time in many years. Each reunion class then gathered in separate event rooms to enjoy a sit-down dinner allowing them to engage in spirited conversations. In addition to reconnecting and celebrating, alumni collectively raised $170,000 in support of endowed class scholarships, which will make a lasting impact for future generations of Rutgers Law students.
Here’s what some of our returning alumni had to say about the experience:
"It was great to reconnect, not only with my classmates, but with the law school. After all these years, it was great to go back to our roots."

"It was great seeing so many classmates. Sharing stories and memories. It was only three years and yet those RLS years were amazing."

"They say, 'You can never go home again.' After 40 years, the Class of 1985 did just that. We hugged, laughed, reminisced, and paused to remember those no longer with us. We celebrated our humble beginnings and our varied career accomplishments. We marveled at the caliber of the current students who shared their experiences with us. We enjoyed the insightful and inspiring CLE presentation on DEI. The abundance and quality of the culinary delights was beyond our expectations. It was a most enjoyable, nostalgic and enriching event - an honor to attend."

“It was great to see so many familiar faces and to reminisce. I also enjoyed catching up with what everyone has been up to in the last several years. It was especially meaningful for my husband and me to contribute towards the creation of the Newark Law Class of 1995 Endowed Scholarship."
