Meet Rutgers Law Visiting Assistant Professor Ebony Ray

Professor Ebony Ray joins Rutgers Law as a visiting assistant professor teaching Legal Analysis, Writing, and Research Skills in Newark. Her research focuses on labor and employment law, administrative law, and civil rights. Her current scholarship examines how legal institutions respond to evolving forms of workplace harm and changes in the nature of work. She is also a visiting scholar at Cornell Law School.

“As a New Jersey native, I’m thrilled to join the Rutgers Law community and to have the opportunity to teach and mentor its talented students," she said. "I’m excited to contribute to the law school community, continue developing my scholarship, and learn from my new colleagues.”

Before joining Rutgers, Professor Ray served as associate director and acting assistant professor of Lawyering in New York University School of Law’s Lawyering Program. Prior to entering academia, she practiced for several years as a litigator at leading international law firms, focusing on labor and employment and complex commercial litigation.

Professor Ray holds a J.D. from Cornell Law School and a B.S. from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. She clerked for Judge Gerard E. Lynch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Judge Colleen McMahon of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
