Pioneering Diversity in the Law
We're proud to be one of the nation's most inclusive and diverse law schools in terms of our students' race and ethnicity—over a third of our students are people of color—as well as their life experiences and career aspirations. Our locations in two metropolitan areas also play an essential role in helping law students understand the issues confronting a wide range of clients.
Rutgers Law has pioneered diversity in the law through our Minority Student Program (MSP), which offers legal skills development, academic support, alumni mentoring and networking, and other opportunities in both Camden and Newark. One of the first of its kind, MSP helps students become successful law students and lawyers, and has been a leading force in diversifying both legal education and the legal profession. Originally geared toward students of color, it is now open to any student who can demonstrate a history of socioeconomic or educational disadvantage.
Diversity brings different perspectives to the law and to the conversation in our classrooms. People are more empowered by the law when they see someone who looks like them practicing it.
